Source: Play with a Purpose

The source I chose is titled Play with a Purpose, and describes specific examples of why play/physical activity is important for students in school. Atlanta is the focus of the article, and author Cynthia Gentry explains how the ban on recess in 2001 had a negative effect on student's learning. The article continues to explain how many children are becoming more sedentary, and how recess could be the only physical activity they get each day.
The claim the author of this article is trying to show is: movement and fun might help kids pay more attention during class. The reasons behind this claim are evidence that students in Atlanta became more sedentary due to the lack of physical activity in school. They  now have the second highest rate of childhood obesity in the nation, and are also developing diabetes, vitamin D deficiency, high blood pressure, and depression. An example that shows how a teacher used 15 minutes of class to play with the students, resulted in their highest math scores yet.
This article will definitely help me to show how physical activity is important for children to be healthier and to learn more efficiently.

  1. Good start! You need more information in the summary and much more in the evaluation. Remember, for the evaluation there are 14 things to consider.
